With approximately 200,000 residents, Modesto provides a great mix of small-town values with a big-city vibe. Modesto’s ideal location in northern California places it within 2-3 hours from all of the best that California has to offer, including San Francisco, Monterey, Santa Cruz, Yosemite National Park and various ski destinations, Sacramento and even Lake Tahoe! All this while retaining some of the most affordable housing options in the entire state.

What is Modesto uniquely known for? Nuts, wine and agriculture (locals call it “ag”). Gallo Winery–the world’s largest winemaker–is headquartered here. And Stanislaus County is the number producer in the Central Valley area which produces more than 80% of the world’s almond supply. If you’ve recently gone through a fresh bag of Blue Diamond Almonds, they came to you from Modesto! Other major crops include milk and dairy products, walnuts, peaches and other specialty fruits. The Modesto Certified Farmers Market features locally-grown produce and other food products on Thursdays and Saturdays.

In downtown Modesto, the Gallo Center for the Arts hosts a wide range of world-class entertainment including popular Broadway shows (Cats, Evita, Mamma Mia!), the Modesto Symphony, Central West Ballet, popular comedy acts (Cheech & Chong, Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias), magic shows (Lance Burton, Criss Angel), and more.

During the summer, “MoBand” (The Modesto Band of Stanislaus County) continues a more-than 100 year tradition of hosting a weekly Concert In The Park at Graceada Park on Thursday evenings. Other venues around town feature local and regional acts of all types.

Modesto has a strong car culture and is a popular destination for auto shows. The annual American Graffiti Festival and car show heralds back to the classic 1973 George Lucas film “American Graffiti” which depicts scenes from his experience growing up here.

Modestans are social and involved in several community organizations: from churches and temples, book clubs, service clubs, Scouting, well regarded cycling clubs, the Shadow Chase running club and the Boston-qualifying Modesto Marathon, there is something for everyone. There’s even a local “Love Modesto” movement to get involved in!

More than anything though, people describe Modesto as a family-friendly, affordable midsize city with solid values with limitless recreational opportunities.

Some interesting facts are that the genius behind Star Wars, George Lucas, began his original writings in the library of Downey High School in Modesto. More recently, popular rap artist Macklemore highlighted Modesto in the music video for Glorious, a tribute to his grandmother who lives here.

From the award winning donut shop to the annual American Graffiti festival, Modesto has something for everyone and this is a place you will want to call home.
